In Memory of Ada Haggett and Beryl McPherson

Both Ada and Beryl will be sorely missed by the Totman Public Library Community.

It was Ada Haggett who generously provided the land on which the library buildings stand today and for that we are most thankful and appreciative.  Ada also served as a trustee of the library during the 1980s.

Beryl is remembered for her many years of service to the library as a volunteer during the 1990s.  She is remembered by library patrons as "a cheerful, reliable and very knowledgeable volunteer ... she was a trained librarian."

Ada Minott Haggett

Ada Minott Haggett of Phippsburg past away on Sunday, September 29, 2013.
Ada served as a trustee of the Albert F. Totman Library from March 1981 to March 1988.
The 1981 Albert F. Totman report says in part "As a result of her report to the trustees an article was passed in the 1982 Town meeting to establish a fund for growth and development of the Library".  This would "continue to investigate the moving, renovation or replacement of the Library building."
The 1982 Albert F. Totman Library report had this to say: "Ada along with Anita Totman spent many hours doing a thorough cleaning and organizing the building."
In 1984 when the Library was moved to its present location, the land was given to the Town by Ada and her husband, Fred Haggett.
In the Annual Town meeting of 1986, Ada was reelected to the board of trustees for 2 years.  Also in the 1986 Albert F. Totman Library report: "Ada Haggett will be preparing a newsletter to inform the public in more detail of our hours, activities and material available to you."
Ada was a founding member and the first President of the Phippsburg Historical Society.
Ada was also a key member of the writing and editing team for preparation of the award winning Town history "Phippsburg - Fair to the wind".
The Trustees of the Albert F. Totman Library wish to express our condolences to Ada's family.
